The first thing is she dares to choose different kind of films. At the young age of 23, she has the guts to take up films like Highway, Udta Punjab and Dear Zindagi. Ms Bhatt is not worried about the box office business and prefers to do meaty roles which is commendable.
Balancing act
Second thing is Alia knows how to balance her film choices, on the one hand she is doing a small budget film like Udta Punjab and on the other hand, she does a Shaandaar which was expensive and glossy.
Variety is the spice of her life
Talking about Alia’s talent, she is a versatile actress, she can surprise you by playing the role of a drug addict in Udta Punjab, next door girl in Kapoor & Sons and an ambitious filmmaker in Dear Zindagi. Plus she is a fabulous singer and has mesmerised us with her voice in songs like Samjhawan, Ikk Kudi and Love You Zindagi remix.

We also spoke to trade analyst Komal Nahta to get an idea of what trade thinks of Alia’s talent. Komal too feels that Alia is best among her contemporaries and according to him these are the qualities which sets her apart , “Two things sets Alia apart from her contemporaries, one she is a fantastic actress and secondly her choice of script is phenomenal. Alia has moved far ahead of her contemporaries. Shraddha is also good, but Alia has come in a different league altogether. She has more success than Shraddha like Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, Dear Zindagi, Udta Punjab, Kapoor & Sons except for Shaandaar every film of her is a hit and in every film she had a very meaty role, she is not an ornamental heroine, she has got real terrific and variety of roles. Alia revealed in her interview with AD that she is a tea person and hence there were specific instructions to put up a tea bar in the house. But funnily, and interestingly, there is a hip flask on the bar counter that reads, “I didn’t text you, vodka texted you”.
