Sushant Singh Rajput’s M.S. Dhoni – The Untold Story has taken excellent opening across the country. The film collected 21.30 crores on its 1st day to become Sushant’s highest opener till now.
M.S. Dhoni – The Untold Story is directed by Neeraj Pandey, who previously helmed Baby, Special 26 and A Wednesday. The film also features Anupam Kher, Disha Patani and Kiara Advani in key roles.
For all the Shah Rukh Khan fans, here is a news that might upset you. If you had been eagerly waiting for Shah Rukh’s next Raees to hit the movie screens in January 2017, just like us, you might have to wait a little longer! Why? Apparently, the film makers are planning to push the release date of Raees further. Raees was initially scheduled to release alongside Hrithik Roshan‘s Kaabil. However, there are reports that suggest that the Shah Rukh Khan and Mahira Khan starrer will NOT be releasing in January next year. No, the reason isn’t the box office clash with Hrithik Roshan! It’s the ongoing fiasco of sending Pakistani actors back. A lot has been said over not allowing Pakistani artistes to perform for Bollywood and ever since MNS announced that it will not allow any Pakistani actors’ films to release in Maharashtra, Pakistani artistes all over the country are being condemned. A couple of days ago Shafqat Amanat Ali concert was called off in Bengaluru and also, Atif Aslam’s concert in Gurgaon got cancelled.
Now we all know that Mahira Khan will be making her much-anticipated Bollywood debut with Raees. Taking into consideration the current scenario, the film makers think it won’t be a favourable situation to release the film in January. According to Hindustan Times, Shah Rukh Khan along with the makers of his next is planning to change the release date because of Mahira’s role in the film. An insider says, “SRK’s film is introducing Mahira. He added, “Because of the MNS order, the makers want to push the release date to avoid double losses. Also, they can’t afford to have the movie boycotted at the last moment due to the current tension between India and Pakistan. If this happens, it will be a big win for Hrithik. Both Dilwale and Fan didn’t fare well at the box office. So SRK will avoid taking a risk like that.”
NEither Riteish Sidhwani, the producer of the film nor Rahul Dholakia, the director of Raees, have been able to comment on this. Raees is a crucial film for SRK because his previous movies Fan and Dilwale, both didn’t do very well at the box office. With the film being pushed further, we wonder if it will release in 2017 itself or 2018..maybe?! Let’s hope not!
Talking about the Raees–Kaabil clash, Hrithik’s father Rakesh Roshan had earlier mentioned to a leading daily, “I had announced my film in February last year. A sudden announcement about the release of another movie is a little unethical. However, I can’t stop any film from releasing on the same day.” Well, now that the clash is most likely to be averted, it has only paved way for Hrithik’s Kaabil to make more money at the box office.

M.S Dhoni: The Untold Story hit theatres today! The movie we had been waiting for was finally here! As the title goes, the movie showcases the life of one of the most known cricketers. The movie stars Sushant Singh Rajput who plays the cricketer himself, Disha Patani who plays his first love and Kiara Advani who plays his wife Sakshi. While there has been a huge buzz around the Hindi version, there has been equal excitement around the Tamil and Telugu version. Film critic Sreedhar Pillai had mentioned that the film saw an opening equivalent to a big hero Tamil film. In cricket terms, it hit a helicopter shot! The movie is totally hitting it out of the park. And now we have the occupancy, screen count of day 1 in Bangalore. In an EXCLUSIVE interview with Bollywoodlife, a distributor from Bangalore said this,”The occupancy is about 60-65% and the screen count is about 75-80 screens. It’s big number for this kind of picture. Generally we get 100-110 screens for a Salman Khan/Shah Rukh Khan picture. We were expecting 50-55 screens (for MS Dhoni) but it has crossed 75 screens. The advance bookings have been good and they are expecting a big collection today. It is also a holiday in Bangalore – Amavasya, so that is an added advantage down South.” He also mentioned that there have been no big releases except for one Karnataka movie. So that could also been another factor in the movie’s favour. The distributor did go on to mention, that the occupancy and screen count is keeping in mind the original Hindi and Tamil version both. No matter how much I praise the songs from Mirzya, it is still going to e less. Shankar – Ehsaan – Loy delivers a masterpiece of an album, that will stay with you for years to come. And with the release of their new song from the film, Hota Hai, we are simply running out of new compliments to praise the song a bit more. So instead of lavishing more good words on the song, we will discuss the visuals and the actors’ chemistry in the song. Now you know Mirzya is the debut of Anil Kapoor’s son Harshvardhan Kapoor and Saiyami Kher, and is directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra. He is the same film-maker who gave us memorable hits in Rang De Basanti and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. Even his duds like his debut Aks and Delhi-6 were different from the usual Bollywood fare. here he is tackling the legendary romance of Mirza – Sahiban, through the young debutants, Harshvardhan and Saiyami, as they also play new age version of the same character, trapped in the same dilemma – whether to chose love over family, even if it means death.
Hota Hai song video has nearly the same scenes as the second trailer of the film. The latter had the same song as the BG score, so this is just a truncated version of the same with some extra scenes, that involve the Rajasthani villagers, dancing and twirling around. You also find out that unlike the Ramleela sequences in Delhi 6 that just play parallel to the main plot, here you can see the lead characters interacting with the villagers. And I also noticed the very talented Anjali Patil (of Chakravyuh and Finding Fanny fame) in one of the scenes. The song also delivered on the intense crackling chemistry between the leads, that will leave you asking for more. Enough has been said about Harshvardhan’s gruff looks that make him stand apart from the rest of his peers, and yet no words are enough to describe his intensity. Saiyami Kher‘s doe-eyed look will floor you instantly. Here’s the video of the same…
As for the song, here’s what our music review had to say, “The singers of the title track return once again, as Daler Mehndi, Sain Zahoor, Akhtar Chinnal and Nooran Sisters join for a superb jugalbandi. Like Chakora, SEL once again mixes folk and modern elements to make an engaging number. Though it is fantastic for sure, it doesn’t have the same kind of impact as Chakora.”
Living life on your own terms can be quite a task. Splitsvilla contestant Gaurav Arora’s candid interview after his transformation into a woman will get you thinking. He is now known as Gauri Arora. The Splitsvilla 2015 contestant created waves on the Internet when he posted snaps looking like a girl. In an interview to Hindustan Times, he made a number of revelations. Talking about sex change surgery, he said, “Right now I am on medications. When my doctors will feel that I am physically ready to undergo the surgery, we will decide then. Anyway, I don’t think I need a vagina to look or feel feminine. (Also) it’s very expensive. But I will undergo a breast surgery soon in next couple of months,” he says.
The former hunk says he is particular about how he looks. He added, “I can’t look like trash being a public figure. I can’t look abnormal. I can’t let people get uncomfortable with my presence.”
Gaurav, who now likes to be called as Gauri also explained his struggle with his old identity. He is not at all bothered about what people will say or comment about his drastic transformation. He said, “Yahi toh thi main (This is what I am and have always been). I gave birth to myself again. I went against society, friends, parents and everyone else.” The young man had revealed that he was bisexual on the show.
The decision to change into a woman was not an overnight one. It seems he was trying to do it from many years. He stated, “In all these years, I have tried so many times to be a girl. But because of my constant pressure from my parents and society to look like a (straight) boy, I could never come out. I was never allowed to talk about how I felt inside. People used to laugh at me. I even tried to commit suicide.”
It seems that his family is not at all happy with his decision. However, the young man has stuck to his decision. “My father is not supporting me. My younger sister doesn’t talk to me. My mother is on my side but not willingly. But I can’t live my life according to them. I couldn’t have been in between. Either you have to be a boy or a girl – you cannot be a joke,” he says.
Gaurav’s Insta account is full of snaps that show off how much he is enjoying his new identity as a woman. “I know I am pretty and I work hard to look pretty. The real challenge now is that I want to prove to the society that we transgenders do exist and we can be look as beautiful as Katrina Kaif and act as well as them. And being a transgender, I have an equal right to do what I wish to, go to the best of hotels, wear my favourite brands and live a normal life,” he signed off.
Bollywood superstar Salman Khan on Friday questioned the campaign against Pakistani actors working in India, saying they were not terrorists.
“They are artistes. What do you think… Are artistes terrorists?” Salman asked at a press conference here.
“They come to India with visa. Who gives them the visa? Our (Indian) government gives them visa. The government gives them work permit,” Salman added.

“In this day and this age, I think if we live with love and peace, then it will be better for everyone, especially for the common man.”
He, however, justified the surgical strikes, saying it targeted the terrorists who killed 19 Indian soldiers in Jammu and Kashmir on September 18 and were planning more attacks.

Earlier it was Akshay Kumar who had similar opinions like us. He too appreciated Government’s decision to carry on strikes and said it was high time that India starts reacting. Shah Rukh Khan also thanked the Indian army and prayed for the safety and well being of our soldiers who are involved in this strike.
So it won’t be wrong to say that the whole Indo- Pak issue takes a new turn every other day. After India banned Pakistani actors in India, it was their turn to retaliate. They too have now stopped screening of Indian movies in Pakistan.

What’s Bad: A languid pace of the first half is a problem. Also, a 3 hour run-time could have been avoided by cutting down on the whole love angle.

Coming from a middle-class family, Dhoni is forced to take up a job in railway and put his Cricketing dream on the sideline. After working as a ticket checker, how Dhoni decides to risk it all and give a full shot towards playing Cricket full time is how the first half establishes. Further on, the second half tackles his love life, his captaincy and his rise in International cricket.

First of all, one has to appreciate the fact that Neeraj Pandey not being a fan of Dhoni, comes up with a genuine script regarding a personality.
The film takes off brilliantly with Dhoni making a striking decision during the World Cup final. Further, we are taken into a flashback where we meet Dhoni’s middle-class family. The effortless representation of the town’s flavor and the family life is easy to connect for everyone. Moments such as Dhoni’s dad forcing him to concentrate on studying over sport, the school coach and his wife buying fish in the market are cleverly written scenes.
Dialogues such as Dhoni confidently saying, “Hume Bhi Ek Chance Dijiye Na” or even “Naukri ke liye out thodi honge” are enough to show us how brilliantly, the writers have cracked the persona.
First half is slightly languid as it takes us through Mahi’s struggle from shuttling his studies and game to later choosing his game over a government job. Quite early on, the makers convince us that time and again, Dhoni has faced challenges in life and these tough times are reason behind his calm demeanor.
The interesting story takes a detour with his love life. At first, his love affair with Priyanka (Disha Patani) that comes to a sad end and further his meeting with Sakshi (Kiara Advani), his wife.
What many may complain is that Pandey chooses to stay away from the rumored problems between Dhoni and his senior colleagues and also Chennai Superkings and the whole spot fixing debacle.
Although I’d be in Pandey’s support for not getting there and showing any heroic image of the player. The film is a literal tell all and at no point event puts Dhoni on a pedestal as someone great.
M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story Review: Star Performance
Sushant Singh Rajput gives his career best performance. He is not only convincing as the player with his body language but also with his amazing batting skills. The actor has clearly put in immense efforts for this role and I’d say they will definitely be paid off as he is set to get noticed for it.
Anupam Kher does a great job as Pan Singh Dhoni, the father. He emotes brilliantly in the scenes where he is full of pride for his son.
Bhumika Chawla plays Dhoni’s sister. She does a fairly good job and quite true to her simplistic character.
Kumud Mishra’s character is the one that holds importance in giving Dhoni the big break. He is as usual a perfect fit for his role.
Kiara Advani and Disha Patani look pretty and do what’s exactly expected from them.
Supporting actors like Rajesh Sharma and give this film the required impact.
A special mention to Herry Tangri, who portrayed Yuvraj Singh in the film. Loved his bits thanks to the exact body language.
M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story Review: Direction, Music
Neeraj Pandey is better known for his thriller films Baby, Special 26 etc. With Dhoni, Pandey makes his point as a director, the fact that he can pull off any film.
Pandey’s observation is surely brilliant and hence his lead actor gets the right under the skin of the character.
There are ample of scenes in the film that make you glee, be it the amazing camaraderie between Sushant and his friends or his uncomfortable shoots for brand endorsements, the situational comical nature in them is a winner.
Music of the film has been widely appreciated and Besabriyaan surely sounds lovely in the theaters.
One of the major issue with the film is that it adds on to its run-time thanks to two love songs that could have been chopped out. We certainly wish the exotic honeymoon bit was left out of the film.
First half is long but is forms the base for the story. The second half is not gripping until the climax that takes us back to the World cup win.
Don’t be surprised if you find yourself cheering for all the footages of Indian tournaments, included for representation of the iconic moments in Dhoni’s life.

M.S.Dhoni -The Untold Story is certainly a must-watch if you’re a fan of Indian cricket. Get to know the man behind the composed, confident, match-finisher of Indian cricket team. A 3.5/5 for this one.

Sushant Singh Rajput, Disha Patani and Kiara Advani’s M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story hit the screens today and while most of us can’t wait to watch the film, our reviewer Sreeju Sudhakaran has already seen half of the movie. During the interval he told us a brief of what the film is about, how is the flow of the movie and what did he liked and didn’t like in the film. Here’s what he had to say, “Mahendra Singh Dhoni is definitely one of the most loved and followed sportspersons, forget cricketer, in India. The following that he commands is enough for his biopic to bring in the crowds. Plus, you have a talented actor like Sushant Singh and a brilliant director like Neeraj Pandey in the mix, so expect M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story to bring in the crowds. That’s what happened when I saw the biopic First Day First Show in a nearly full show, with the audience cheering every time Sushant Singh Rajput as Dhoni hits a six. It’s like watching Captain Cool himself playing that shot. Okay, forgive me for gushing. I am not a Dhoni fan, but a cricket fan, so any story of a talented cricketer struggling to reach the top is definitely appealing.
MS Dhoni: The Untold Story narrates the untold journey of Indian ODI captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni from a lanky school kid in Ranchi, who actually wanted to play football, to the swashbuckling wicketkeeper cum batsman that we know him today. The film begins with Dhoni’s school coach discovering his talents at wicket keeping, his father’s initial reluctance and later acceptance of the fact that his son is better off as a cricketer than as a Government employee and Dhoni’s own struggles to make it to the Indian team, as he works as a TTE at Kharagpur station. The film moves breezily in the first half from one incident to another, as we get invested in Dhoni’s life and career. Several moments stand out like Dhoni seeing his father wake up in the night to water the ground, his first match with his future rival Yuvraj Singh, and him not coping with his railway duties. But is the film flawless? Not at all. The film needs some serious trimming as the first half continues to stretch enough to nearly make you restless. In the hands of an inferior director, we would have been snoring by now. But Neeraj Pandey‘s deft direction makes the film watchable.
