This week didn’t really have big releases, however, Riteish Deshmukh and Nargis Fakhri’s Banjo was still unable to rake in more bucks at the box office. The musical drama directed by Ravi Jadhav, marked his debut in the Bollywood industry. However, the reviews weren’t very well received. Even the opening day collection hasn’t been good as the film, despite opening in about 2000 screens, only raked in Rs. 1.72 crore. The film released along with Radhiak Apte’s Parched. Though Apte’s film opened on a small scale, the revenue earned but eh film has been quite good. Although, there were hopes that the film would do well in the weekend, considering it doesn’t have a major competition except Amitabh Bachchan’s Pink. But it seems to have only had a minimal growth. Trade Analyst Taran Adarsh stated that the film only raked in Rs. 1.75 crore on its second day. He tweeted, “#Banjo shows minimal growth [13.37%] on Sat… Fri 1.72 cr, Sat 1.95 cr. Total: ₹ 3.67 cr. India biz.”
On the other hand, Radhika Apte’s Parched earned a meagre Rs. 12 lacs on day one. The film did open on a smaller scale, as compared to Banjo. Hence the film’s numbers seem quite fair. Plus, add the fact that Parched is meant for a niche audience. Hence, it won’t be really a competition to Banjo. On the second day, the Leena Yadav film did manage to rake in Rs. 22 Lacs on Saturday, rounding up to Rs. 34 Lacs. For a film made in low budget and having gone through a lot of piracy, the film has received good numbers. Trade Analyst Taran Adarh, shared numbers of Parched on his Twitter as he tweeted, “#Parched Fri 12 lacs, Sat 22 lacs. Total: ₹ 34 lacs [limited release]. It is quite sad for Banjo that the film hasn’t earned as much as it’s contemporaries! Seems like Amitabh Bachchan is still reigning the box office for the week with Pink. The multi starrer film that also stars Taapsee Pannu, Angad Bedi, Kirti Kulhari, Andrea Tariang and many more in pivotal roles has managed to earn more than its profit margin within its second week! It is quite an achievement for a low budget film as the film not only crossed its profit margin but also earned more than the profit they were expecting. With a very strong word of mouth, the film has received a tremendous response at the box office!
