After Diya Aur Baati wrapped up this month with Sooraj ( Anas Rashid ) and Sandhya ( Deepika Singh) dying to save country s honour. All the fans of the show have been waiting for the new season that’s slated to come this January on Star Plus. Currently the producers of show Shashi and Suneet Mittal and Star Plus creative team is looking for the right cast to play the main leads of the show. Especially for the role of Sooraj and Sandhya s daughter Khanak who will the main protagonist in the new season.
Many names were approached and the shortlisted ones are Kanika Tiwari and Niti Taylor . Though still auditions are on but these are the final chosen ones. Kanika happens to the cousin of popular TV actress Divyanka Tripathi and is not new to arc-lights. She made her debut in 2012 with Karan Johar’s Agneepath as Hritik Roshan’s sister. She was at that in her 10 standard when she did Agneepath, but now she has grown up and wants to venture full fledged in the world of glamour. She hails from Bhopal and wants to make it big like her cousin Divyanka Tripathi.
Since Kanika made her debut with a big banner like Dharma Productions she has major Bollywood plans. After all, she has worked with stars like Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra in her debut film. So naturally she harbours the dream of making a comeback with a Bollywood project only. Though she has not ruled out TV and is giving Television a try and that’s why had the given the audition for the role of Khanak . The Star Plus creative team and producers liked her audition and want Kanika to do the role.
So finally Kanika will take the final call as going by her cousin Divyanka s popularity and fan following, she also feels that Television be the stepping stone in her career. She was recently part of Divyanka’s wedding in Bhopal with whole family and lives her sister and Jeeju Vivek Dahiya. Though after Agneepath in 2012, she did couple of regional films down South but Hindi films is what her true calling is. She made her debut with Telugu film and went on to Kannada and Tamil films as well. Kanika is just 20 and feels that this is the right time to venture into hindi films or serials . While for Khanak’s role in Diya Aur Baati Hum season 2 along with Kanika , Niti Taylor also has been short listed ..Niti being a popular star already stands a good chance though she has got a Life OK show by Saurabh Tiwari as well . So she has to choose between the two. So the final call will be taken this week as to who will play Khanak in Diya Aur Baati season 2. The team will then leave for Kerala for the first schedule . As reported by us earlier, the show will begin with Sooraj and Sandhya’s death and will open with Bhabho and Khanak. Initially only Neelu Waghela will be there in the show and gradually the old actors like Baba sa ( Ashoka Lokhande ) and Meenakshi will join the story. Also the search is on for the main male lead opposite Khanak and many bollywood and TV s big names were approached to play the part.
