Banjo box office Day 1 collection: Riteish Deshmukh and Nargis Fakhri's this musical drama rakes in only Rs. 1.72 crore!

Banjo box office Day 1 collection: Riteish Deshmukh and Nargis Fakhri’s this musical drama rakes in only Rs. 1.72 crore!

It is always exciting to see a celebrity transform into a totally different personality because the script demands the same. This is one of the big reasons behind excitement for Banjo. We’d never seen Riteish Deshmukh look so different, with long tresses and stuff. However, apart from that, viewers also expect some kind of content, which is one thing Banjo failed to exhibit. The film, which also stars Nargis Fakhri and marks the debut of Marathi filmmaker, Ravi Jadhav, was a confusing musical drama that hit the theatres on 23rd September. With the kind of buzz around the film, there were some expectations from the film’s performance at the box office. However, that didn’t quite happen.

On the opening day of Banjo, the film only managed to rake in Rs. 1.72 crore. With speculations that the film might have a strong hold, considering how it will attract the Maharashtrian crowd, this one sure is a disappointment. With the fanbase that Ravi Jadhav holds in Maharashtra, there were a lot of hopes from the film. However, this seems like a slow start. In fact, the film doesn’t even have a big competition as it clashed with Radhika Apte’s Parched, which is a niche film for the niche audience. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh, tweeted the numbers of Banjo. His tweet said, “#Banjo Fri ₹ 1.72 cr. India biz… Will have to witness massive growth on Sat + Sun for a respectable weekend total.” Another reason why it is quite disappointing to see that the film didn’t rake in much on its opening day is the fact that it managed to grab hold of 2000 screens. In fact, our our trade expert – Akshaye Rathi (exhibitor and distributor) too explained to us EXCLUSIVELY, that Pink will do better than Banjo and Parched! “Parched is a very niche film and it has had a very niche release too, it’s not meant for a wide audience. In it’s own way, it is doing fine with the little audience it is supposed to cater to. Banjo has had a good start in Maharashtra. It is one place where Ravi Jadhav has a good fan following and so does Riteish Deshmukh. It’s has opened to 25-30 per cent occupancies in Maharashtra. It has managed to get about 2000 screens. On the other hand, Pink is sustaining well. It has performed well throughout this week and this weekend, it will do very well again. Pink has been able to hold about 1000 screens this week,” he said. Well, as stated by Mr Adarsh, the weekend sure is a tough one for Banjo. Pink is having a good ride at the box office, courtesy word of mouth. Although reports on Parched movie’s box office numbers aren’t out yet but we’re guessing Banjo might’ve beaten it, considering the fact that it falls in the niche genre. Pink is currently having a good box office run. The film was made on a budget of nearly Rs 25 crore and already it has managed to earn Rs 35.91 crore. This is a very good profit, if you ask us. Stay tuned to this space as we bring the box office numbers of Parched along with more scoop on what’s the status of films that have released recently.
