Diya Aur Baati Hum becomes a rage in Thailand

Well as they say some stories are universal and have no language barrier, one such story is of India’s popular show ‘Diya Aur Baati Hum‘. The show might have ended in India, but it’s running in Thailand and has become a popular show there. The demand of the show is so much that people started asking for its DVDs in shops. Now that the show has completed 1000 episodes in Thai language, DVDs of the show have been launched.

The DVDs are available in all big departmental stores in both Thai and English languages. While there are a lot of other hindi shows whose DVDs are available there, Diya Aur Baati Hum is most popular. People who missed the show while it was run on television, are catching up with episodes on DVDs.

Recently when Deepika Singh visited Thailand she got surprised when she saw her fans talking to her in Thai. Since the dubbed version of the show was aired on television, fans automatically assumed that Sandhya speaks Thai. Deepika also gave a Odissi performance there and mesmerized the Thai audience with her performance.

Diya Aur Baati Hum was a family drama with a difference . It was a story of girl who wanted to study but was married off to an illiterate guy,played by Anas Rashid, under family pressure to an orthodox family. The girl, with her illiterate husband’s support, ends up becoming a senior police office.

Along with Diya Aur Baati another show who Thai people are liking is Haatim as it boasts of special effects and action that Thai audience loves. All mythological shows like Ashoka, Mahadev, Siya Ke Ram also are been loved by Thai audience . Most of the Thais are Buddhist and somewhat connect with Indian culture. Also Ramayan and Buddha stores form an important part of their religious literature.

But Diya Aur Baati Hum is the first family drama to be liked by Thai audience. Same is the case with Indonesia, where Indian shows are appreciated. Currently ‘Veer Ki Ardaas Veera’ and ‘Uttaran ‘ are the most popular shows in Indonesia.Seems like Indian TV series are truly going global.
