Here’s why Hrithik Roshan – Pooja Hegde’s Mohenjo Daro trailer is unimpressive and historically WRONG!

Hey, Hrithik – Ashutosh you have failed to impress us this time!

Hrithik Roshan – Pooja Hegde’s Mohenjo Daro trailer just released yesterday and sadly, it did not live up to all the hype that surrounded it. While the storyline of a typical underdog, beautiful damsel and a villain seemed done-to-death, there were some glaring historical discrepancies which seemed extremely hard to digest. Yeah, and there were many.

Director Ashutosh Gowariker who did an extensive study of the great Indus Valley civilization before making Mohenjo Daro claimed the film to be a love story set in the same era. But, the trailer of this much awaited film had references from Hollywood flicks and suffered hang over from the director’s last flick Jodhaa Akbar. Here are some glaring errors form the trailer which did not go down well with us. Give it a read and tell us if you agree with us too.

Pooja Hegde’s portrayal of ‘Mother Goddess’ does not live up to the actual description…

Pooja-Hegde-Mohen-Jodaro

From the trailer, we could understand that Pooja’s character Chaani is modelled on the lines of the excavated statue of the ‘Mother Goddess’. From the original archaeological site of Mohenjo Daro. Historians have deduced that the inhabitants of the Indus valley civilisation revered nature and in the trailer, Chaani is called an offspring of Sindhu (river). But her costume is fashioned on the lines of Elizabeth Taylor of Cleopatra and is nowhere on the lines of the original costume worn during that era. This seems unauthentic and incorrect. Right?

Casting gone wrong…

Teaser-mohenjodaro

According to history (and as pointed out by the makers) the Indus Valley was one of the first civilisations in the world and hence, Mohenjo Daro existed much before the Aryans invaded India. So, the original inhabitants of this civilisation were Dravidians who were known to have a short and stout body built and dusky complexion. The leading man Hrithik Roshan (despite being ducked in the bronzer) and the antagonist (Kabir Bedi) clearly did not fit the bill! We are not even commenting on the fair and lovely Pooja Hegde here.

Incorrect projection of horses in the movie

Hrithik-Horse

History tells us that the Aryans invaded India through the Khyber Pass on horses. In the pre -Aryan era, there were no horses. Official information on the lost city of Mohenjo Daro claimed that although the inhabitants had cattle and elephants, there were no mention of horses. So, the horse scene is totally unwarranted for.

The original inhabitants did not call Mohenjo Daro by this name

Mohenjodaro

Mohenjo Daro means the village of mounds and the archaeologists named it thus, and not the original inhabitants. There is a lot of mystery surrounding this town and much is not known about it.
