Veerappan box office collections: The Ram Gopal Varma film is off to a sluggish start as it earns Rs 5.95 crore over the opening weekend!

The film failed to make a major impact at the box office.

This Friday marked a very important day for Ram Gopal Varma as he looked to make a smashing impact with his film Veerappan. However, the film only received a lackluster response from the critics and the general public, and this is clearly visible from the film’s collections.

The biopic on the notorious forest dacoit managed to earn only Rs 5.95 crore in its opening weekend. On the opening day, the film earned Rs 1.79 crore. Over the next two days, the film’s collections gradually increased to Rs 1.96 crore and Rs 2.20 crore on Saturday and Sunday respectively. So, the overall collection managed to be near Rs 6 crores and the film didn’t end up a complete disaster. Keep in mind that this is the all India wide collection. So it looks like, the RGV movie is going to end up a flop.

As a film, Veerappan was not received so badly by the critics who felt that some of Ramu’s old flair and brilliance as a director has returned. Nonetheless, it fails to dominate at the box office and is far behind the leader, The Angry Birds Movie, which managed to earn Rs 9.04 crores over the first three days.So this week’s collections too follows the disturbing trend of Bollywood movies losing out to Hollywood movies which began ever since The Jungle Book overshadowed Shah Rukh Khan’s Fan at the box office.

On the whole, Veerappan is not the RGV comeback we hoped for and we think he should focus more on filmmaking and less on tweeting.
