Yoga will make me a better partner in bed, says ex-Bigg Boss contestant Sushant Divgikar

Yoga will make me a better partner in bed, says ex-Bigg Boss contestant Sushant Divgikar

The model-anchor opens up to Bollywood Life at length about his video that has him challenging a baba who says homosexuality is curable through yoga

Statistics reveal that sex is the least spoken about subject in the country. It is very ironic. Everyone is doing it but nobody wants to talk about it. Ex-Bigg Boss contestant and Mr. Gay India, Sushant Divgikar is making news for a video where he is challenging a yoga guru who says he can cure homosexuality through yoga asanas. When Bollywood Life got in touch with Sushant, he said, “I did it as a part of my digital show, Backseat with Sushant. We talk about issues like sex, love, desire, sexual orientation, etc on the programme. The idea is to know your body and self in a better manner. I also had an interview with sexologist Mahinder Watsa who revealed how little Indians knew about sex.”

Coming to the video, Sushant reveals that he practices yoga as well. He learnt yoga for 15 years as part of his curriculum. “I chose psychology as my specialization and hence could not get my degree in yoga,” he says.

Sushant says that the yoga guru featured in the video had earlier cured people of alcoholism through yoga and felt it could cure homosexuality as well. “I don’t know from where people get such shitty notions of curing gay people through sex. It is not an illness. Yoga is a way of life and a form of exercise that improves your sex life,” says Sushant.

Bursting into laughter, Sushant opines, “Yoga will make me far more attractive in the eyes of my boyfriend. With a flexible body, I can attempt all the poses of the Kama Sutra. It will only make me a better partner for my boyfriend. Trust me, a lot of guys are hitting on me after seeing this video. Seriously, I feel all these babas should be locked in a room and made to do yoga till they come to their senses.”

The model cum anchor is also hurt at how people perceive the LGBT community. “Look, there are many people holding high public positions who are closeted gays. And it’s a known fact that many babas run brothels in their ashrams. It pains me when they depict the LGBT community as one that is sex-crazed. They make us look as if we are only ‘satisfying ourselves’ 24×7. C’mon, gay people have families, do community service and work for a living. I am single right now and believe me, sex is not on my mind,” says Sushant.

Further on, he states that young India has become quite sensitive towards the community. “Ninety nine per cent of my friends are straight. When I go to their homes and we discuss our common gay friends, I see a lot of sensitivity in their kids in how they address us. It is so heart-warming,” he shares.

Homosexuality is a contentious issue in the country. It should be highlighted that very few people open up about their exact sexual orientation by the age of 24 or 25. “It is sad to hear that people want to cure me. We are still living in a delusional world. When will the stupid f**kers realize that? These people are hardly educated. I saw contestants in Bigg Boss who were evidently gay but kept it a secret. They never even said a word of support for the LGBT community. Such hypocrisy creates a lot more stigma for us,” says Sushant.

There are many countries that have legalized same-sex marriages and gay couples can adopt children as well. Moreover, there are provisions to safeguard them at their workplaces. “We have not made any progress on this front. A man sleeping with a man is considered as a bigger criminal than a rapist. How can consensual sex be more heinous than rape? We trust our judiciary and law-makers but it’s time they did away with archaic laws. We say we are the world’s biggest democracy, we should live like one. Forget metros or a city, life is harrowing for the LGBT community in rural India. Gay men are raped and they can’t seek legal recourse. Does the government care about educating the LGBT or transgender community? I see this one eunuch close to my Bandra home and he speaks better English than many. Yet, he never got the chance to study. It hurts me like hell. We might be a minority in India but we want our rights,” asserts Sushant.

“See, even a popular figure like Baba Ramdev said homosexuality is a curable disease. My community and I would like to challenge him before the media to prove his claims. We feel he should do more head stands so that blood flows to his brains and he thinks in the right direction,” signs off Sushant.
