Baby was one of Akshay Kumar’s biggest blockbusters in the last couple of years, and now the film is ready to have a spin-off, something which is rare to see as a trend in Bollywood. As we have reported before, the spin-off will focus Taapsee Pannu‘s character in the original film and is called Naam Shabana. If you remember, Taapsee Pannu was one of the best things to watch in the original films, and she impressed us with her tough-as-nails character in Baby. Her natural looking fight sequence with Sushant Singh (not Rajput) was an highlight in the film, and like Akshay Kumar’s character in the film, even we were left stunned by the end of the sequence. Though Taapsee’s role was more of an extended cameo in the film, now Akshay Kumar will return the favour as he will play a cameo in her spin off film. Akshay Kumar will be reprising his role of anti-terrorism task force agent Ajay Singh Rajput in Naam Shabana.
The actor has already started shooting for his role in the film in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, along with Taapsee Pannu. Akshay Kumar has posted a picture from the sets there along with Neeraj Pandey and Taapsee Pannu. He captioned the image as ‘In order!! The MasterMind, The Hero and the Cameo… Team #NaamShabana workin it on the streets of #KualaLumpur’. So as you can guess, Neeraj Pandey, who directed the original Baby is the ‘mastermind’. However he will serve in a producer’s capacity for Naam Shabana. Taapsee Pannu, looking pretty in that new haircut, is the ‘hero’. She has already given an impressive performance earlier this year, with PINK, so we are looking forward to watch her in this one as well. And finally Akshay Kumar, in his famous moustachioed avatar, is the ‘cameo’.
Naam Shabana is directed by Shivam Nair. Malayalam star Prithviraj Sukumaran, who was seen in Aiyyaa and Aurangzeb, will also be seen in a pivotal role in the film.
