Mohanlal‘s Pulimurugan is still holding the reins at the Kerala box office even after 15 days. At the end of its second opening weekend, the box office gross has neared Rs 35 crore. Looks like the movie’s collections are not slowing down anytime soon. It was on October 7 when Mohanlal’s 4th release Pulimurugan hit theatres. It opened to rave reviews, everyone was gushing about its visuals and the action sequences. So much so theatres had to increase the number of screenings for the film. Recently, Producer Tomichan while speaking to a leading daily let out the fact that Pulimurugan would be the first Malayalam movie to enter the 100 crore club. Whoa! At the rate at which it’s going, it doesn’t seem like a mere possibility anymore. The movie reportedly has already earned Rs 15 crore as part of its satellite rights apart form its box office collections. We are yet to see, if the movie continues its steady run at the BO. The tiger as of now is clearly ruling! For all those who don’t know, Mohanlal’s movie clashed with another superstar’s Movie – Mammootty‘s Thoppil Joppan. While the movie has opened to decent reviews and is raking in money at the box office, Pulimurugan has won this race hands down. On day 1 itself the film collected a whopping Rs 4.08 crore only to be the second movie after Rajinikanth’s Kabali to rake in this kind of collection at the Kerala box office.At end of its opening weekend, the movie had already crossed Rs 10 crore mark. It then went on to cross Rs 20 crore mark within 5 days. It has continued to remain steady at the box office. What’s more, Mohanlal’s previous release – Oppam, Janatha Garage are also certified hits. The thrilled movie directed by Priyadarshan collected Rs 45 crore within 31 days, it also marked the comeback of the popular director-actor duo. As for Janatha Garage, it has already entered Rs 100 crore club. Clearly, Mohanlal is having a dream run at the BO.

Mohanlal’s Pulimurugan is about an ordinary lorry driver who also happens to be an expert in hunting down tigers ( puli). The film is reportedly made on a budget of Rs 25 crore. One of the biggest highlights of this movie is the 20 minute climax sequence between Mohanlal and a real life tiger. It has been specially choreographed by the renowned Peter Hein.
