Dishoom, directed by Rohit Dhawan, is this week’s big release, with the trailers and the songs trending like anything. The stars of the film, John Abraham, Varun Dhawan and Jacqueline Fernandez, are promoting the film like crazy. Before the movie releases this Friday, let’s check out how the film fares in the music department.
Sau Tarah Ke
Sau Tarah Ke is song that will will slowly put its grip on you, and soon enough you will be singing the lyrics, even absent-mindedly. Jonita Gandhi and Amit Mishra impress us with their energetic singing, with Ashish Pandit singing the catchy hook line. Pritam returns to fine form with this chartbuster, and it will continue to rule the charts even after the release of the film. There is a revisisters version, sung by Abhijeet Sawant and Aditi Singh Sharma, which is like the original but with different singers. A great start!
Toh Dishoom
During Yo Yo Honey Singh’s prolonged absence, Raftaar has fast claimed the position as the go-to guy for rap songs! In Toh Dishoom, he is in sublime form, as along with Shahid Mallya, he creates an enjoyable song, with Mayur Puri’s lyrics adding to the fun. It may not be his best song, but it’s still a timepass fare!
Jaaneman Aah
You have seen the video…you have loved the crackling chemistry displayed by Varun Dhawan and Parineeti Chopra, as well as the choreography. Jaaneman Aah is a tribute to the popular songs of Govinda and Karisma Kapoor in the ’90s (interestingly most of these songs were in the films, directed by both Rohit and Varun’s father, David Dhawan), you know the ones like, Meri Pant Bhi Sexy and Main Toh Raste Se Jaa Raha Tha. The lyrics are nonsensical, but then that’s the point! Antara Mitra and Aman Trikha look like they are enjoying the song, as much as we are enjoying listening to it! There is also a another version, this time sung by Nakash Aziz and Antara Mitra.
Ishqa
Abhijeet Sawant and Antara Mitra signs Ishqa, which is definitely high on energy. But after three very catchy songs, Ishqa is kind of speedbreaker, despite some really good singing here. Forgettable compared to the rest!
Our verdict
The album for Dishoom lives up to its name as most of the songs packs a punch. Jaaneman Aah and Sau tarah Ke will definitely rule the dance floors for some time. The romantics will certainly be disappointed, as there is no scope for some soulful singing here (unless your idea of a romantic song is Baby Ko Bass Pasand Hai and Jaaneman Aah). But then, you didn’t expect such songs here.
