Shocking! No Sooraj and Sandhya in Diya Aur Baati Hum Season 2

It looks like the makers will rope in a totally fresh pair

Once upon a time ‘ Diya Aur Baati Hum‘ was Star Plus’ highest rated prime time show that ruled the T.R.P.s for almost two years. However, the show is winding up this September. Buzz is the show will return with a new look and feel with season 2 though without the original leads… Sooraj and Sandhya. Yes, actors Deepika Singh and Anas Rashid will not be part of Diya Aur Baati Hum season 2, while rest of the cast will be retained.

From the current show, only characters to be retained include Bhabho ( Neelu Waghela ), Baba Sa ( Ashok Lokhande ), Meena ( Kanika Maheshwari ) and Vikram ( Karan Godwani ) will be retained . Sooraj and Sandhya will be show dead in the show and the story will take off from there .

Sources associated with the serial confirmed that the preparations for ‘Diya Aur Baati Hum’ Season 2 has already started and currently casting for the lead pair is one.The initial episodes will be shot in Kerala and the producers and channel are aiming to give a totally fresh feel and twist to the new season.

For the male lead, the makers are looking for a known face from Bollywood and have apparently approached Sharman Joshi for same. For the female cast the auditions are on for a fresh face as it would be a character of a simple homely girl. The new season is been written by writer Shashi Mittal who also happens to be the producer for the show.

‘Diya Aur Baati Hum’ will have its last episode this September and will be replaced by ‘Naamkaran’ which is Mahesh Bhatt’s biopic .

Started on 29 August 2011 , ‘ Diya Aur Baati Hum’ was one of few progressive where the leading lady Sandhya rose against all odds after marriage to become an IPS officer. The story was loved for its unique concept of a illiterate husband who makes his wife a successful officer. The show’s success made Deepika Singh, a Delhi girl an overnight sensation. It brought instant fame to struggling actor Anas Rashid. This was the only show wherein all three Bollywood Khans Aamir Khan Shahrukh Khan and Aamir Khan made appearances.

The show ruled on T.R.P charts undisputed for almost three years till the story started fading and ratings and popularity starting dipping .That’s why channel Star Plus decided to shut the show and gave the team the task to come back after a season break. The show had its fair share of controversies wherein the leads pair had an ugly fight that was the talk of the town . The matter was later resolved but it seemed the success changed the lead actors . The show made characters like Bhabho, Meena Beendni , Baba Sa household names.

It remains to be seen that with a revamp and new look will ‘Diya Aur Baati Hum 2’ recreate the magic of the original without the lead pair.
